Okay, so you know that I tend to try to focus on the positives here. I’m not all about trashing products. But this one ticked me off, and it’s something you should know before you buy one of these smart switches.
I already have a WeMo switch installed at my front door, and it was a relatively painless process. I expected the same when the time came to try out a different brand. This one from Lyasi (http://amzn.to/2iNHNp6 in Canada; http://amzn.to/2BxM6Ao in the US) was on sale, so I thought I’d give it a try.
As you can see from the video, the installation didn’t go very smoothly. In fact, it didn’t go at all. The back side of this particular smart plug made it so that it would not fit in a standard electrical box. Yes, I could have pulled that box out of the wall, and installed a new, larger one – but that’s not what I signed on for with this project. And it’s not necessary with other smart switches.
So, for that, I have to recommend against buying this switch. I wish I could have tested how it actually worked, but I can’t even get it to that point. This one is being sent back for a refund, and I’ll spend the extra few dollars on a better quality switch, like the tried-and-true Wemo (http://amzn.to/2B8nGg7 in Canada, http://amzn.to/2iPlsaJ in the US), or the well-reviewed TP-Link (http://amzn.to/2iPlsaJ in Canada, http://amzn.to/2iOi1Bf in the US).
