How Much Piddle Can A Piddle Pad Hold?

…if a piddle pad could hold piddle?

I was a little pissed off this week (pun!) with Amazon, so I thought I’d test the piddle pads from them ( and see just how much liquid they could hold!

The five-layer, leak-proof design turned out to be pretty robust – it took 400mL of blue water without letting up a single drip, and while 800mL was more than it could absorb, it still managed to hold it all.

In my “research”, I found that “It has been estimated that normal adult dogs in a normal environment will produce approximately 20 to 40 ml of urine per kilogram of body weight per 24 hours (1.0 to 2.0 ml/kg/hour)”. Bowie is about a kilo and a half right now, so that should be 30 to 60mL, but I’m pretty sure he pees more than that!

As for its usefulness as an emergency roadside bathroom pad… well, let’s just say, you’re probably better off holding it until you find a washroom, or at least some tall grass in the ditch!
