Sketching my Thumbnails

I’ve recently changed how I do my thumbnails – going from a more randomized, spur-of-the-moment aesthetic to more stylized sketches.

I don’t know if anyone is curious how I do it, but in case you’ve ever wanted to see the drawing process in action, here you go! This thumbnail took about 45 minutes to complete, but I’ve sped that up to about four minutes of video.

The tools I’m using here are Adobe Photoshop for the software, and a 10×6 Ugee drawing tablet for the input (CDN link is, US link is No, this is not one of the tablets with a built-in monitor – this one is only about sixty bucks, and it takes a bit to get used to drawing in one place, and seeing the result in another!
