GoPro vs Action Cam – Polar Plunge Edition

Last year, I did the Polar Plunge for the first time, in support of Special Olympics Alberta. I just so happened to have a new-ish action cam to test out at the time, and got some fun footage as I jumped into the frozen depths of Arbour Lake.

This year, I once again took the plunge (and raised about six hundred dollars in the process), but I had a new camera to test – my new GoPro Hero5 Session.

I thought, there’s no better way to compare the quality of footage than to do the same event again, and see how the shots compare.

Obviously, the GoPro has a better resolution, better sound, more robust waterproofing, and a higher possible frame rate. But it also costs a lot more, and for the price, you would expect the cheaper action cam to fare a heck of a lot worse!

That being said, the old action cam is now relegated to a backup, and the GoPro is going to be my primary “active” camera going forward!
